About Hydro

Around Hydro.

Worth a stop

Lucille's Service Station sits just south of town on old Route 66, a rare two-story 1929 filling station with the owner's living quarters built right above the pumps. Lucille Hamons ran it from 1941 until 2000 and earned the nickname Mother of the Mother Road, and the building joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

A little history

Hydro was founded in August 1901, when the Wichita and Caddo Reservation opened for settlement along the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad. The settlement was first called Caddo, then renamed Hydro that September in honor of the town's plentiful well water.

Mark the calendar

The Hydro Free Fair, billed as the oldest free fair in Oklahoma, fills the third weekend of every August with rides, live music, exhibits, livestock shows, and a restored wooden carousel that is the oldest in the state.
